Talking Culture with Tommy Guerrero



Welcome to Our Social Landscape, where I’m joined by professional skateboarder and musician Tommy Guerrero. Based in San Francisco, Tommy was an original member of the Bones Brigade team of Powell-Peralta and he later went on to co-found REAL Skateboards. While he still dabbles in skating and REAL, his focus over the years has gradually drifted towards music, and since the 1990s he’s been releasing music and touring the world behind it.


We start with a discussion of skateboarding and its potential impact on society, touching on issues of identity, gender, and commercialization. We then move to music and the overlap that’s existed with skating over the years. We close with some thoughts on social change going forward…
