Renowned economist Andrew Zimbalist joins me on Our Social Landscape to discuss a few current topics in the world of sports. Zimbalist is the Robert A. Woods Professor of Economics at Smith College, and the author of 28 books as well as a frequent consultant in sports related labor disputes.
We start with a discussion of the NCAA in light of the Name, Image and Likeness court case, which includes a short conversation on women’s athletics. Next is Major League Baseball’s most recent labor dispute, and we finish with his thoughts on the public financing of professional sports stadiums. My next episode will explore this topic further, by way of a discussion with the writer Neil deMause.
More information about Andrew Zimbalist and his work can be found here:
The podcast features the Steely Dan song “Home at Last” from their album Aja.
